This STEM professional learning day aims to support Primary teachers to effectively deliver the new Science K-6 Syllabus (2024) to the teach the Stages 1 to 3 Science topics.
The PD will cover much of the Primary Science syllabus, with emphasis on how Earth’s climate is affected by natural and human activities, the nature of the sun, the Solar system and the Universe, renewable energy and non-renewable energy to generate electricity, how living things change over time including examples from Australia, the forces that shape the Earth’s surface and how light and sound interact with materials.
The 5 hour PD will include a field trip around the Gibberagong EEC to explore local geology and interaction of rocks with biodiversity and culture.
Rationale
The aim of the PD is to refresh and up-skill teachers in basic science.
Classroom projects and activities will be demonstrated using Australian examples and resources.
The field trip will cover much of the Stage 2 and 3 topics on forces that shape the Earth, climate and how living things change over time.
The PD will be delivered by the Teacher Earth Science Education Programme Ltd (TESEP) by a qualified Earth scientist. TESEP is a NESA recognised PD provider.
Standards
Completing this course will contribute 5 hours of TIPL addressing 2.1.2, 2.2.2 and 6.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
