Data science is by enlarge covered by remote sensing and this Professional Development workshop (PD) will investigate the different types of data collection, their relevance and use, particularly in natural hazards prediction, climate monitoring, sustainability, exploring for resources, biodiversity, space, health, archaeology and its use in agriculture and fishing. This PD covers areas across earth and environmental science, physics, chemistry, biology, geography and mathematics.

The 5 hour PD will include a field trip around the Gibberagong EEC to explore local geology and interaction of rocks with biodiversity and culture

Rationale

The aim of the PD is to refresh and up-skill teachers in data science and geological basics.

Teachers will be introduced to a wide array of online data resources suited for the Data Science I and II topics.

Classroom projects and activities will be demonstrated using Australian examples and resources.

The field trip will cover much of the Geological change topic, including examples shown in the field.

The PD will be delivered by the Teacher Earth Science Education Programme Ltd (TESEP) by a qualified Earth scientist. TESEP is a NESA recognised PD provider.

Standards

Completing this course will contribute 5 hours of TIPL addressing 2.1.2, 2.2.2 and 6.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
