Stage 3 Leaders
Program
The Leadership and teamwork program is the ideal program for schools looking to provide a leadership or team building experience for their students.
Students undertake a series of challenges and experiences that aim to build interpersonal skills and resilience across personal and group situations, with a focus upon positive attributes including respect, perseverance, inclusion, compromise, problem solving and kindness.
Following the challenges, students are given time to reflect on the teamwork and leadership attributes they are observing in themselves and their peers.
The program is tailored to your groups needs and is ideally suited for preparing student groups that have taken on leadership responsibilities within their school. This may include year/stage leadership, SRC, prefect groups, peer support teams or whole year groups.
Canoe/Kayak Special Notes
This program has an option for a kayak/canoe activity. Please note, if you would like to do this option, the program is limited to terms 1 and 4 (when the conditions are warmer) and is restricted to a total number of 60 students.

Learning activities
Leadership and teamwork qualities
Students define leadership and identify the qualities they believe make great leader. This will provide the focus and reflection whilst completing challenges during the day
Leadership Challenge
Student will work in small teams to complete a series of challenges. Each of these activities is designed to assist students to understand and develop leadership qualities, teamwork and resilience.
On completion, students will reflect on each activity and the qualities they thought were important in providing an effective outcome.
Rainforest navigation challenge
Working in small groups, the students will use maps to navigate a course to the rainforest, finding solutions to cryptic questions along the way. They will then find the special code word using what they have learnt along the way.
Once in the rainforest, the students will find a spot to practice mindfulness and reflect on their leadership day.
Kayak/canoe challenge
The students will undertake a kayak/canoe activity. During this activity, students will work in a coordinated way to solve problems, requiring effective teamwork, communication and critical thinking skills. There will be a discussion after each challenge to help develop students’ skills in reflection and critical thinking.
OR
Campsite challenge
Students work to define leadership and identify characteristics to work on.
They will then work in small teams to build a shelter. This leadership in action activity provides an opportunity to practice leadership and develop qualities of leaders.
On completion, students will reflect on each activity and the qualities they thought were important in providing an effective outcome.

Map for access to venue will be sent with the confirmation. Please ensure you print a copy and provide to the bus driver on the morning of the excursion. |

| What to bring |
Backpack, medication, low-waste food, water bottle, sunblock, raincoat, hat, sturdy shoes, mask. Students wear sports uniform. |
| Adverse weather |
On days where the weather is unsuitable (see risk assessment), a Gibberagong staff member will contact the organising teacher to discuss alternative arrangements. Please check your bus company’s cancellation policy. |
| Medical notifications | Notify Gibberagong EEC by completing and returning the medical form before the excursion. This form will be sent out upon confirmation of booking. |
