Program
Using the geographic inquiry process, students will investigate the features, human activity and management of Bobbin Head, now and in the past. Each student will be supplied with a field journal to record information acquired through a variety of activities including mapping, fire management assessment and a cultural site visit.
Note: It is recommended that this program be undertaken on a low tide day to enable the students to observe the crabs. Contact our school for assistance with this.
Learning intentions

- How people and environments influence one another
- How people influence places and the management of spaces within them
- How the impact of bushfires on people and places be reduced

Students will visit the mangrove boardwalk to learn about the value of mangrove ecosystems, investigate the impact of visitors in this threatened ecosystem and identify management strategies to reduce this impact.
Changes over time
Students will analyse historic photos from Bobbin Head and arrange in chronological order to compare what features from the past are similar and different to today. Students will complete a field sketch and annotate this to demonstrate their learning.
Fire Management
Students will gain an understanding of the complex decision making process required for hazard reduction burns. Students will use charts to undertake an assessment of the fuel hazard of a bushland area and how this is used to plan hazard reduction burns.
