Program

Bird life incursion provides your students an opportunity to 'spread their wings' outside to learn and play in the natural spaces within their school.

Students will learn all about birds through a series of hands-on, engaging activities that include building nests, making clay birds and searching for food.

By participating in these nature based activities the students will connect to the natural world whilst learning about their local school environment.

Learning intentions

Students are learning about:

Key information

Learning activities

Diving in with literature

Students will use the story “Waddle Giggle Gargle” by Pamela Allen to springboard into the world of birds and their needs.

Build a nest

Birds need nests to help complete their lifecycle. Students take on the role of the bird and create a nest using natural resources in the school grounds.

Clay play - make a bird

Using clay and natural resources, students make a small bird and some eggs to fit in their nest. This activity allows students demonstrate their knowledge of the external features of a bird.

Worm hunt

The early bird gets the worm! In this game, students get active to collect food to feed their baby bird.

Caring for birds

To finish this session, students will think about how they can help to care for the birds in their local area.
