Program
Nature’s Christmas creations is a joyful Early Stage 1 incursion that combines storytelling, nature exploration, and hands-on creativity.
Inspired by the much-loved story Stick Man, students are invited to connect with the natural world around their school grounds while engaging in imaginative play and festive craft activities.
Through storytelling, discovery, and art-making, this incursion fosters curiosity, creativity, and a sense of wonder, helping students celebrate Christmas in a uniquely nature-inspired way.
Learning intention
Students are learning about living things and the natural world.
Key information
Learning activities
Stick Man storytelling & creation
Students are introduced to the story of Stick Man and then head outdoors to gather natural materials to create their very own stick characters. This hands-on activity encourages imaginative play while highlighting the beauty and variety of natural objects found in their school environment.
Nature trail adventure
On a guided walk through their school grounds, students embark on a “family tree” trail, searching for places where their stick characters might belong. Along the way, they explore textures, shapes, and features of the natural world, developing early science inquiry skills through observation and discovery.
Festive nature ornaments
In the spirit of Christmas, students create their own decorations using clay and found natural treasures. Each ornament becomes a unique keepsake, blending creativity with the textures, patterns, and forms of the natural world, while giving children a chance to reflect on how we can celebrate the festive season sustainably.
