Student leader excursion

Student leadership excursion

Student leadership/SRC

Overview

The Student Leader program provides an opportunity for students to learn leadership skills through activities that include discussion and self-evaluation of leadership skills.

Students undertake a series of challenges that are focussed on defining leadership and developing personal leadership skills such as clear communication, decision making, integrity, problem solving, positivity, inclusion, persuasion, listening, compromise, organisation and wellbeing.

The program is ideally suited for preparing student groups that have taken on leadership responsibilities within their school. This may include year/stage leadership, SRC, prefect groups and peer support teams.

Special Notes

This program has an option for canoeing. Please contact the centre for more information about this activity.

Team challenges 1 and 2

Students will work in small groups to complete a series of challenges. Each of these activities is designed to assist students to understand and develop leadership qualities, teamwork and resilience.

On completion, students will reflect on each activity and the qualities they thought were important in providing an effective outcome.

What is a leader?

Studnets work to define leadership and identify characteristics to work on. The activity will culminate with an opportunity to create their own personal leadership crest.

During this session, schools also have an opportunity to run a school specific workshop in conjunction with Gibberagong EEC staff to define and develop a plan for a student-led project.

OR

Kayak or Canoe challenge

Depending on the program location, the students will undertake a kayak/canoe activity on either the Cowan Creek (at Bobbin Head) or in the waters of The Basin (at Pittwater). During their activity, students will need to work in a coordinated way to solve problems, requiring effective teamwork, communication and critical thinking skills. There will be a discussion after each challenge to help develop students’ skills in reflection and critical thinking.
